The field
A skeet field has two houses facing each other across a half circle: the high house on the left throws from high up, the low house on the right from near the ground. Seven stations sit on the arc between them, and station 8 is in the middle, halfway between the houses.
Unlike trap, the targets follow the same path every time and cross in front of you. What changes is the angle you see them from as you move around the field.
What you shoot at each station
American skeet, governed by the NSSA, runs in this order:
- Stations 1 and 2: a high house single, a low house single, then a double.
- Stations 3, 4 and 5: a high house single and a low house single.
- Stations 6 and 7: a high house single, a low house single, then a double.
- Station 8: a high house single and a low house single.
That is 24 targets. The 25th is the option. On a double, you shoot the target from the house nearer you first.
The option
Miss a target and your option is used right away: you shoot that same target again. If you get to the end of station 8 without a miss, you shoot the option as a second low house target at station 8.
Scoring
You get one shot per target, and each broken target is one point, for a score out of 25. NSSA events are shot in four gun sizes (12, 20 and 28 gauge, and .410), and shooters are placed in classes from E up to AAA by their average.
American vs Olympic skeet
In NSSA skeet you may mount the gun before calling, and the target comes out immediately. Olympic skeet, governed by the ISSF, starts with the gun down at the hip, adds a random delay before the target appears, and throws faster targets.
Score a round of skeet with Dustd
- Tap the + button at the bottom of the screen, then Keep Score.
- Choose Skeet and add your squad, up to 20 shooters.
- Hold to start. Each shooter shoots the whole station before the next one steps in, and the screen names the target coming up: high house, low house or double.
- The option is handled for you: miss a target and Dustd calls for it again right away. Run the round clean and it comes up as low house 8.
- When the round ends, the squad is ranked and the round is saved to the profile of every shooter who is on Dustd.
