What FITASC is

FITASC sporting, sometimes called parcours de chasse, is the international form of sporting clays, named for its governing body, the Fédération Internationale de Tir aux Armes Sportives de Chasse. In Canada it is run under the CCTSF.

Instead of a long course of stations, FITASC is shot on layouts. Each layout has several machines and usually three shooting stands, called pegs, and a squad of up to six shoots 25 targets there.

Singles first, then pairs

On a layout, the squad first shoots the single targets at each peg, then comes back around for the pairs. The lead shooter rotates, so a different person shoots first each time.

Rules that differ from NSCA sporting

  • Gun down: the gun must be off the shoulder, with the butt visibly below the armpit, until the target appears.
  • Two shots on a single: you may fire both barrels at a single target. It still counts one point.
  • Pairs are report pairs or simultaneous pairs.
  • Targets are usually longer and more varied, so scores run lower than in NSCA sporting for the same shooter.

Scoring

Every broken target is one point. Competitions are usually 100 or 200 targets, shot over four or eight layouts, and your score is the total broken.
